Long Before Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

Long Before

Long ago, before the world knew Christ,
Maya people lived, their lives were tryst.
In Guatemala's lands, they made their start,
Farming villages, a brand new heart.

A thousand years, before the sacred birth,
Their early seeds were planted in the earth.
Then towns grew grand, with writing strong and new,
And pyramids that reached high up to the blue.

For hundreds of years, their culture shone so bright,
From ancient times, into the fading light.
From village small, to cities wide and grand,
The Maya people, masters of their land.
