Look Away Poem by Kane Rodney

Look Away

As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
My heart grows in its unrest.
My mind is trapped in a cage of fear
I dare not look up not even to leer
I look away from my brother who is beaten to within an inch of his life.
i look away from my sister who is abused and left with strife.
I look away from my siblings who walk the streets and are gutted with a knife.
I look away from the woman who sells her body to survive.
I look away from he homeless, living but not really alive.
I look away from the drug addict who overdose.
Sadly it is dealer who cares the most.
I look away and keep my head down
I dare not make a sound.
I wonder about those evil people who cause so much pain
They bleed as I bleed, we all bleed the same
We are all equals in the abominable valley,
So how can one confiscate another's happiness so readily?
I wonder about myself, judging those who make others sad
I consider myself to be better, yet I look away, so am I not just as bad?
