Looking Over My Shoulder Poem by Nancy Handabile

Looking Over My Shoulder

Getting up
shaking dust
walking away
Looking over my shoulder
But I realize
the front is were am headed,
So I take my rope because
I will not pull you anymore
I will not seek to heal you anymore.
I tried God knows I did
I too have my wounds
But I never expected much
I wanted only you
even if it was a small part
of you I guess I was used to scrapes for so long
I never saw your wrong
way of saying so long
adios goodbye
A fraction of you is better than nothing at all
But I cannot look over my shoulder you aint there
