Lou Andreas Salome Poem by johannes lewinsky

Lou Andreas Salome

All who fell for her knew
They were entering upon
an inferno from which
There was no escape until
they be relieved of their souls

all who fell for her knew
there was no going back that this
was a once was once only

before they be engulfed
by the clouds and miseries
that hung and clung heavy
and abject about her

for all of which she remained
untouched and pristine
as the day first met her she was not

in the business of laying down her soul
she was not
in the business of engaging
she was only
for all that she was giving

apparently of herself for gobbling
gobbling at the fruit she'd gotten
core pips and all till there was nought
on the plate left to show for it
