Love Does Hurt Poem by Ojeikpo Elijah

Love Does Hurt

Love, they say, is the sweetest of pains,
A double-edged sword that cuts both ways,
An exquisite fire that forever reigns,
But also a storm that ravages and sways.

Love does hurt,
It starts with a spark, a glimmering light,
A feeling so pure, it takes your breath away,
You soar to the heavens, your heart takes flight.

But little do you know, it's just the first play,
For love does hurt, it knows no mercy,
It digs its claws deep into your soul,
It leaves you vulnerable, oh so thirsty.

For a love that'll never make you feel whole,
It's a rollercoaster of emotions,
A journey filled with twists and turns,
It tests your strength, your devotions.

And leaves your heart forever to yearn,
But amidst the pain, there's still love's delight,
The joy, the passion, it brings to your life,
For every tear shed, there's a moment so bright.

That makes it all worth the struggles and strife,
For love is not just roses and wine,
It's a battle that we choose to fight,
And in the end, when we reach the finish line.

We'll know that love, in all its might,
Is worth every heartache, every tear,
For in love, we find our truest self,
And though it hurts, we'll always hold it dear.

For love, my dear, is truly wealth,
So let love hurt, let it break us apart,
For in its pain, we'll find our strength,
And though it may leave a scar on our heart.

We'll embrace it, for love, at its length,
Love does hurt, but it also heals,
A paradox, yet a beautiful truth,
For in love, we'll find what our heart feels,
And that, my dear, is the essence of youth.
