Love's Bell
With errant feet, with cold and fallow eye,
Across the barren scape I trudged alone;
Sweet wistful visions never truly known;
Melancholy dreams ever drifting by
Like cotton candy clouds in summer's sky,
And silver moonbeams from my grasp withdrawn,
But experience waxed until, full grown,
I learned to love and to give pride the lie.
Wisdom has found me after all these years,
Tranquility is dwelling in my thought,
And to sip the truth from knowledge's well,
Melts away the sighs and regretful tears,
From all the lost years, so ardently sought,
At last to hear the sweet toll of love's bell.
