Love Survives

A love so very hard to find
A love that's true but clearly blind
One that shines in the darkest places
Abides in cramped and cluttered spaces
It can take a punch, back to the wall
Will rise above where others fall
Is surely flawed, no chance to be
Rides the waves of uncertainty
Caged and bound, it's buried deep
Beneath a dirty, thankless heap
Embers glow despite the rust
Deprived of care and robbed of trust
Yet holding fast, it remains
A warming glow, an endless flame
A love that lives in a million lines
Hides its light amidst the rhyme
Takes abuse and turns a cheek
Standing firm in its belief
Wronged and weary, it perseveres
Holding fast throughout the years
Seasons come and seasons go
It braves the wind, survives the snow
Tightly wrapped, bound by strings
It knows the ache of cuts and stings
How I ask, does it survive
Without a light to help it thrive
A love it seems, without a cure
A passion born, meant to endure
A love that stands the test of time
Lips are sealed to hide the crime
Tries so hard to understand
The rules of never-never land
Born of lust, stroked by fire
A tête-à-tête of shared desire
Whispered promise of what might be
Sown with seeds of flattery
It's takes ahold in tender parts
Flourishing in a foolish heart
Yesterday seems so long ago
Forgotten lessons, one used to know
Although today brings grief and pain
The love is destined to remain
A love that's rooted within a soul
Always half and never whole
Wishes from the secret places
Ignores the time that's gone and wasted
A flame still burns, the distance long
It has no place to call its own
It's just a spark to always be
Sustaining on vague memories
The songs once sung, so long deleted
Still burn the wires to be repeated
A poem of love, an ode of hate
A voice that speaks of fire and fate
A witness to life's history
A love that dares eternity
