Love's Many Faces Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

Love's Many Faces

Love's face can shift and gleam,
Like a river's endless stream.
We feel with hearts both big and small,
Each emotion answers love's call.

Some wrap you in a gentle hug,
A cozy, warm, and loving rug.
Soft words that whisper, 'You are dear, '
Chasing away each doubt and fear.

But some will step a little back,
Or lay down rules upon love's track.
A fear within, a hidden plea,
'Don't hurt this fragile part of me.'

The way we show it, strange it seems,
To others' waking, loving dreams.
A language spoken, understood,
By those who see and feel it good.

Why is it hard to change this art?
To mend a deep and hidden part?
The brain's pathways, worn and deep,
Are habits that our spirits keep.

What seems like cold, or pushing far,
Can be a guard, a shining star.
Protecting what is soft and true,
From hurts that might just see it through.

What seems like cold, a distant stare,
Is often just a gentle shield.
A fragile heart beyond compare,
A secret wound that must be healed.

Our very selves, from birth they grow,
A part of who we are to be.
This inner flame, it starts to glow,
And love reflects this deep decree.

Our nature, born before we knew,
A part of me, a part of you.
This deep-set self, it stays its course,
A constant, inner, gentle force.
