Lullaby Poem by Martin Ward

Lullaby

I close your eyes
and sing you a lullaby.

Though you pass
into another's arms,
I will be with you
for all time.

I wonder
what could
have been:
how many
candles lit
or blown,
or when
the colour
of your hair
would change.

Thank you for giving me
the gift of telling others
that I love them;
for helping me
greet another day.

Our time together;
precious as life itself:
brighter than the sun.

My aching heart
must wait
until we meet
in a special place.

I kiss you goodnight,
but the time will come
when I hold you again.
