Maintaining Stance Poem by Gisela Ireland

Maintaining Stance

Atop this cliff
Golden rays set in the distance
Torrential water suddenly slaps my legs
and rushes past my feet
Inviting cascade
Promises exhilaration
But I resist
with unwavering balance
Digging feet into the earth like roots of a redwood tree
So that tomorrow I may see the rising rays of the eastern sun.
