Making America Great



I stood by the mantle,
Beer in my hook,
Result of a slicing
When I didn't look,
Wife in her rocker,
Patch on her eye,
Result of an uppercut
I once let fly.
Her mouth in a scowl,
A gin in her hand,
Typical rednecks,
Atypical land.
Books in the fire,
Guns on the wall,
Making America
Great after all.

epilogue

Today in my town,
Crowds hit the street,
As they began,
The Chief left the beat,
Took off his cap,
Down on one knee,
Hand raised for George -
Alternatively...
