'Love'll kick ya in da teeth! '
Then she took another swallow of her beer.
'Naw, Opee. You ain't known real grief,
Til love Finnish witcha teeth! '
As she pick up her cards,
And re-shuffle her deck.
'Opee, play may song! '
For the 10th time today.
'Then come on over here,
And bring ya Mama Faye
'Nutha beer,
''Cuz I gotta story ta tell, '
Her song was by Michael McDonald,
And Patti LaBelle.
It's entitled 'On My Own, and
She loved it.
The title speaks for itself,
But, as a child,
I thought nothing of it.
Wasn't her first time tellin' it,
She knew exactly where to begin
She told it to me as if
I was her only friend
And just when seemed that
I might drop a tear,
She peeked over her shoulder
And slid me a swing of her beer,
Then another,
And another,
Man, I miss my Great grandmother! ! ! !
And as long as I'm alive,
I'll NEVER forget the day,
That I laughed, listened, learned
And drank
Wit MY Mama Faye! ! ! !
Then at the end of the story,
Just when I KNEW she was about to weep,
She laughed and shouted out,
'I done went and got
THE BABY drunk...
'MUST be time to go to sleep! ! ! '

This is hilarious, whether truth or fiction. (I wish you had told us in the poet's note whether or not it is true.)
