Mama Said Poem by Calico Jack

Mama Said

Rating: 5.0

'Do not enter politics! '
That's what my mama said.
She said if I got down in that pit
my morals would be dead.

'Do not be an astronaut! '
my mama loudly cautioned.
Cuz' if you go up in that ship,
you'll come home in a coffin.

'Do not be an army man! '
was my mama's battle cry,
'If you get caught up in a war
I'm sure that you will die! '

When I left home to start my life
my mama screamed and hollered.
But by that time I'd heard so much
I wasn't even bothered.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
It was supposed to be light-hearted but people have told me that its morbid. I guess the first part could be, but it is supposed to be a joke! Oh well, I guess its all up to interpretation. I would love a comment or rating whether it be negative or positive. Thanks for reading!

My mama said; Do, go be a poet and a writer, when your starving just pull yours pants belt tighter. I saw the humor.

I don't think it's morbid at all. The sensitivity of some people is astonishing. Anyways, I think you're talented. Tell YOURSELF that. Don't go looking for someone else's approval. Of course it can encourage you, but it can do the opposite. Don't let it. Always strive to be better. That alone can get you very far.
