Mandy And Bill Poem by Francis Duggan

Mandy And Bill

Bill is in the pub and Mandy his ageing wife
Sits at home watching t v the story of her life
That has not changed for her over Seasons of time
And she is four decades beyond her life's prime

Their son Josh in Europe from home far away
She has not laid eyes on him for many a day
Whether he is married or partnered or has children she cannot say
She has not heard for him since he left home twenty years ago in May

Love between herself and Bill for years is dead
And no hope of a passion rekindling in the years ahead
They do not sleep together anymore
Since he used to keep her awake at night with his loud snore

Bill with his fellow members of the football club
Is enjoying the beer up at the local pub
Whilst Mandy at home sits watching t v
Separated under the one roof is how they seem to be

Both in their late sixties time not on their side
That there is no love left between them a fact neither of them hide
She sits at home watching t v whilst he sits in the pub
Drinking with his mates at the football club.
