Many Kilometres North Poem by Francis Duggan

Many Kilometres North

Many kilometres north of his home country town
Feeling depressed and financially down
And feeling homesick for his home far away
Though as poor in the poor suburb he will stay
Four years ago he left his home in the south
But things in life for him have not worked out
Two years ago from a building site scaffold he took a bad fall
Lady luck has not been with him at all
That he was not an insured worker he had not realized
The heavy fall has left him semi paralyzed
He feels he is lucky that he is alive
Though on disability benefits he does survive
Though homesick he will not return to his home in the south
Since stories of success he does not have to tell about.
