Many Things Poem by Dean Meredith

Many Things

He asked
If I might please consider
Not losing too much
In compensation for the gains

He was sentimental at heart
Though hard-headed at times
Swimming each side of the sword
Ensuring I do not drown

There were obvious things that usually went
Quite naturally - youth, virginity
Old school friends, last decade's fashion
Your old rooms in your parents' houses

Films you just had to see, back then
That video they shared around
Of someone else thank God
The snickers in homes & hallways

You can lose your hair, he said
It will grow back eventually
You can lose your way for a while
But hopefully return to your path

There are angels out there, he said
Always here to guide us
Lose your courage, re-find it
Lose those bad habits, gladly

Keep our name or part thereof
Hyphens are fine for sharing
Keep your dignity and pride
And our love, indestructible
