Maybe Next Year Poem by Ray Hansell

Maybe Next Year

It's Christmas time once again
War's continue to rage on
I was hoping by this Christmas
The war's would be all gone

But I guess it's wishful thinking
I feel it's something that will never be
To have a Christmas day
When the world is war free

So to those who fight the battles
On distant foreign shores
We know that your being there
The decision wasn't yours

Hopefully the day will be calm
S that everyone can pause
To remember back to their childhood
When you wait for Santa Claus

But I know that with the dawns early light
You must get back to the task at hand
Be ready once again to fight
Be ready once again to make a stand

Maybe this time next year
You won't be in a foreign land
You'll be back home in America
With the one's you love close at hand
