Lent is meant
to be the gracious time, lent
By God to man, to repent
For wrongs and sins and relent
For misdeeds, with a mind bent
To remove every sinful dent,
Upon the soul’s rind apparent,
Paying some kind of rent
To the Redeemer Son of God, sent,
And when spent
Worthily, the scent
To reach heaven by ascent
to represent
The soul’s case that turns a present
To the Almighty, who forgets all dissent
And sees the ardent person’s atonement,
Giving His assent
By His forgiveness and clement
Judgment and consent,
To the element
Of amendment
And the soul’s enlightenment
And fitment
By giving it grace’s garment,
Without any impediment,
The moment
Death makes its engagement,
But cannot prevent
The soul’s reconcilement
And enlistment
As a resident
Permanent,
To share the wonderment
And treatment resplendent
In God’s tent.
