Medical Educationtechnology (Met) Poem by Dr John Celes

Medical Educationtechnology (Met)

’Tis time that teachers truly taught
Their pupils through technology,
Abandoning pedagogy,
And following androgogy.

The teacher now facilitates;
The medico must learn on own;
The student must be guided, shown
The art of learning, gaining skills.

And be the doctor curing ills,
Well-informed, ethical, who bills
The patient fairly, and not kills –
Whose heart with empathy now fills.

System approach can do the trick;
The learner learns to treat those sick;
He burns the mid-night oil and wick,
While laying knowledge-base and brick.

Society’s needs ought to be met;
Technology makes teachers bet;
He learns the principles, mind-set,
As understanding students get.

A time-bound program must be set;
Let teachers change their attitude;
Imparting knowledge, better skills
To students with more aptitude.

Students are adult learners now;
If shown the way, they learn and know;
Encourage them to swim and row
In seas of knowledge and say, ‘wow! ’

Set goals for education then
And learning objectives even;
Plan your lessons, add your ken,
Prepare with zeal, digital pen.

The teacher ought to change a lot;
Student is not mere ‘to-fill-pot’;
Through principles, he must be taught;
The degree must be sought, not bought.

Tradition was till now, OK;
Welcome the student-centric day;
Curricula must change some way;
Technology must have its say;
Behavior-change will then repay.
