Medusa Poem by Jacob Santacruz

Medusa

Rating: 5.0

I can't seem to speak, I don't have a voice
I open my mouth but out comes no noise
Don't care what I think, it just doesn't matter
The things in my head just build up and shatter
I'm feeling so hopeless 'cause everything's wrong
It seems like my life loves to sing the same song
It plays in a loop, just over and over
I swear it gets harder to do these things sober
I'm trying to breathe; fight for breaths of fresh air
But swallow in water, it just isn't fair
I'm reaching for something, anything I can grab
But it seems like the hands that reach out just throw jabs
Don't know why I'm fighting, don't wanna stay strong
It feels like this fight has gone on for too long

I'm not looking for sympathy, not looking for tears
I'm just looking for someone who understands fear
No, not fear but pain; the lonely inside
Makes everything dark and eats you alive
It's just like Medusa, don't look in its eyes
It'll turn you to stone; your soul is its prize
But I took a peek and my heart now feels hardened
I got way too close; I was looking for pardon
But the dark can't forgive and the dark can't forget
The dark only tangled me up in its net
It slowly but surely keeps pulling me under
Each minute each second just seems to feel longer
Don't know why I'm fighting, don't wanna stay strong
It feels like this fight has gone on for too long

An insightful depiction of depression written with clarity of thought and mind. Well crafted in persuasive expressions and nicely embellished in poetic rhyme and rhythm. Thanks for sharing Jacob.
