'Meerkats Have More Sense.' Poem by Gillian M Hart

'Meerkats Have More Sense.'

Suppose the parents of three toddlers
Had semi-skilled jobs,
Or were unemployed.
They went on a vacation.
Every night, they went
Out to dine.
While the kiddies, slept.
In the accommodation.
Would anyone say, 'It's fine? '

The parents thought
It was all right
Until the night:
One child was no longer there.
What's the betting
That the others,
Would have been
Taken into care?

Imagine that you see,
This news on TV.
Then you change the channel,
To watch a wild-life show.
You've seen it before,
But the meerkats are so cute,
You just want more.

While Mother Meerkat forages,
Another minds the pups.
You think about the couple
That were on the news.
Maybe you blame their
Lack of education,
Or just think they're dense.

You come to the conclusion,
'Meerkats have more sense.'
