Melinda Died Poem by Dakota Ellerton

Melinda Died

As I sat there,
with an endless supplies of pills in my hands,
a little pair of feet stood beside me.
Someone had placed their hand on my back,
as they hunched down beside.
‘Melinda, what are you doing…Dad would be so disappointed’ they whispered.
I lifted my head,
and saw a young girl with brown hair and eyes,
glancing at me.
She smiled,
and placed her hand on my chin.
Tears ran down my face as I braced myself to collapse.
A child, an innocent child,
had tried to save me from a fallen mind set.
She leaned in to whisper a message.
My eyes still and focused on nothing,
my hands seperated dropping pills across the floor.
I hadn’t even noticed,
the little girl had left.
I dropped my head,
to stare at the tattoo on my wrist.
‘Dad loves you.’
