Memento Mori Poem by Leonard Dantzler

Memento Mori

I plan on flying away
But my wings are missing feathers
And Turbulence is high in the skies where the angels reside
I'll choke on the high winds and pummel to the ground like a defected missile
I watch with envy as the birds soar by

And it is at night, when only creatures and the wind move, do I really fear my thoughts
A deathtrap with seat-belt straps, they seem to lock me still as the night rocks me still
And if the saying 'If looks could kill' was referring to fear, then I beg you please don't stare

And as the World fell They all looked to me for an answer
But the only answer I can give will lead to more questions
So spare me of your past fortunes or misfortunes
And how this, would have rightened that
Delay No More The Time Has come

And your tears merely moisten the path I walk
