We may have seen it coming
Yet it still seemed a surprise
The life had left your body
Before you closed your eyes
The last time that I saw you
You softly whispered hi
Usually a greeting,
This time it was goodbye
They say that it's a blessing
A blessing to forget,
But I don't think I want to
-Not yet
I still see you sitting
In that captain suit you wore
Playing that same piano piece
I've heard you play before
I still have the picture
Of that old car that you drew
And every time we barbecue
My thoughts return to you
These memories
Are all that I have left
Please bless me
That I do not forget
I can still remember
That smile on your face
My aunt, she tried it on for size
When she was in your place
The last time that I saw her
She apologized
For the way I had to see her
The pain was in her eyes
They say that it's a blessing
A blessing to forget
But I don't think I want to
-Not yet
I remember stories
That I'd only heard from her
I see her sitting on the couch
The way she did before
I can hear that nickname
The one that she called me
I remember how I loved
To keep her company
These memories
Are all that I have left
Please bless me that I do not forget
