Memories After Memories Poem by Oscar Munir

Memories After Memories

Memories after memories
I remembered every bit of them
Every place, every joke and all the dreams that we had
Everything was clear.
We did not travel the world,
But we had a million stories,
And in my head they played,
One after another, like a DVD.
There was joy in my life
Because you gave me whole of you
That I can't deny.

You were there when I needed someone to talk to,
When I needed someone to hang out with.
That time you were mine,
You definitely were mine
Nothing stood in your way,
Nothing held you back
The gifts you gave me,
Even when I tried to refuse them most times,
I remember all the risks you took for me,
The precious time you gave me,
Escorting me home every night and evening that we met.

We visited a number of places,
And got in trouble more than once
Do you remember these times?
We played a couple of games
You got in trouble because of me,
And your mum was not happy with you sometimes
But nothing ever stopped you,
All you wanted was me and you kept coming,
But I took you for granted
I was busy with someone else
Even though my heart was divided,
I gave you the smallest portion.

Eventually I let you go,
Following my heart I thought,
That was my biggest mistake
For I followed someone only to reach a dead end,
I had my heart broken thrice
Now I knew exactly what and who I needed,
"Lovers have to be friends"
I should have listened to you
I'm in love with you more than I ever was,
But you are taken, I'm only chasing the wind.
