In Your Eyes. Poem by Oscar Munir

In your eyes I saw everything that I needed to know,
Filled with tears and the long face you wore,
it was quite undeniable the pain was there,
for a long time I sat, staring at you saying nothing,
A lot was going through your mind I realized for sure.

You only stared, completely mindless of your surrounding,
We passed a lot of interesting things along the way but you saw none,
From the kids who slid holding cows' tails,
To the old lady who jogged like a youth on the other side of the road,
A number of jokes were said in the van but I never saw you smile or laugh.

I knew you were hurting but I was hurt as well,
Tears flooded my eyes as I stared at you
but this you couldn't see at all,
For the entire journey I locked my eyes on while you only stared at her,
All the pain you felt was for her leaving much as I was going to stay,
It's in your eyes that I realized it's her feelings that you have and not mine.
