Menagerie Poem by Bob and Alex Eichen

Menagerie

See the horses, all muscular and sweaty.
The foxes gaze, admiringly.
And the bunnies too.
The jackasses bray, wanting attention.
The pigs only oink in disgust.
But the peacock is not annoyed.
He's too wrapped up in his own reflection.
A puss walks in, is frightened, and runs away.
The whales head for deeper waters.
Followed by two young tadpoles, giddy with anticipation.
The old dog wonders, 'What am I doing here? '
'I've had my day.'
'I'm too old to run with the big dogs.'
'I'm going home to sleep on the porch.'
'Why, oh why, did I join a health club anyway? '
