Mercedes Poem by Anisa Tara

Mercedes

You took me to your mountain top
And showed me your fields of gold
If I'd known what laid beneath
I'd never have sold my soul

You showed me your kingdom baby
For as far as my eyes could see
If only I'd known the price
Of what love would exact from me

You took me to your mountain top
And broke all my bitter bones
If I'd known the cost of infidelity
I'd have spent those nights on my own

You showed me your kingdom baby
I never asked you for a thing
And even after all the lies
I'd have worshipped on my knees

Take your Mercedes and leave me
Come down from your throne
Leave the girl who didn't know
You had another to call home

If I'd known I was unworthy of love
I'd have spent those nights on my own
