Migrant Workers Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

Migrant Workers

Rating: 5.0

The migrant workers in India are
several lakhs from north to south
and west to east, working more
and pay less, when Covid-19 knocked
On the doors of India! They imposed
lockdown for the people to keep
social distance but they failed
to arrange buses and trains
for the migrants to go back
to their native States.

Most of the private concerns paid
not salary and theworkers stayed
on the pavements and stranded in streets.
Some of them dared to walk
two thousand kilometres and some others
travelled on their bicycles and bikes,
to breathe and die at home.
Some of them starved to die.
Fearing arrest by the cops
Some of them walked along the rail track,
felt weak and tired and slept
On the track to be run over by trains.

Those who are brought back
by flights from abroad are isolated
for two weeks. Covid 19 laughed at
all kinds of precautionsand steps.
The rate of infection isskyrockettimng
but the mortality rate is crawling up.

The fate of the migrant workers in this time of Covid is so miserable. Many are stranded without work or means to return to their native places. The tragedy that took away the lives of those asleep on the railway track is so painful and shocking! Covid 19 is wreaking havoc everywhere! A very realistic description!
