Monarch Poem by Barry Middleton

Monarch

the glow of sunrise
ends the darkness

a monarch butterfly
tests a new breeze

his fragile conquest
controls the dawn

he brings morning
in pastel shades

his own gaudy colors
crown him as king

yet his rule will fade
before the sun sets

proud royalty rises
on ephemeral wings
