Monday Poem by RIC BASTASA

Monday

another holiday
for people
to think some more
whom to vote
on May 10,

less empowered
they are like
Jews hauled by
the cahoots of Hitler
to be burned
somewhere

money, money,
poverty spoils
the true face of
freedom

my cousins are mad
at me
for taking the liberal
stance
that all the tenants
must use their own
minds

use the limited light
of their lamps
to light their paths
during the darkness
of their lives

i respect their choices
in this
baby democracy
still getting milk
from stepmother
America
