Monsoon Poem by Varghese Kuncheria

Monsoon

Joji Varghese Kuncheria
Tropical Monsoon

Come the coveted month of June,
To relieve the summer heat,
Tropical Monsoon on the first week,
Without delay or haste it comes.

Hitting Kerala first in full vigor,
With rains showering hard for hours,
With winds to accompany them,
No thunder or lightening complimenting!

Socked in rain is the whole month,
The intensity draining in slow pace,
With occasional showers following,
Throughout the following month.

Monsoon is such a blessing indeed,
That comes precisely every year,
At times creating havoc all around,
Yet a welcome thing to look forward.

Without any fail comes the Monsoon,
On the first week of June precisely,
As though to teach us punctuality,
That the colonists took back as they left.
