Monster Poem by Rachel Brewer

Monster

You are the monster I see in the night,
After I close my eyes.
You are the monster who haunts my dreams,
You take me by surprise.

You are the one who creeps up on me,
You give me an awful fright,
You are the one I can’t stand to look at,
The one who comes in the night.

Why did it have to be you?
I didn’t want this to be real,
I can’t believe you scare me so much,
I want my mind to heal.

I can’t dream of you another night,
I don’t think I’ll survive.
I try to stay awake all the time,
Just to know I’m alive.

You are the monster I see in the night,
Your eyes glowing bright red.
You are the one who overtakes my nightmares,
The one who makes me afraid of going to bed.

Why do you do this to me?
Please tell me a reason why.
Then I might be able to get rid of you,
Well, at least, I can try.
