Mother (4) (My Migrant Mother Memoir) Poem by U Win Kyi

Mother (4) (My Migrant Mother Memoir)

Mom was a farm girl from countryside,
where there was no human rights.
From Mainland China did she hail,
where poverty and starvation prevailed.
After marrying Dad, she emigrated to a land of Pagodas,
which was called beautiful Burma.

Let's look it at a glance,
where food were plenty and abundant.
But life was no less hard than that of her native place,
so every piece of money she had to save.
Burma is a place where blend of races daily strive,
most are Burmese and many other hilly tribes.
Where her stomach might be fillled,
but her happiness was almost nil,
because she didn't know about Burmese language.
Learning it was difficult at that age.
Even the A, B, C... she didn't recognise,
she could not read nor write.
She was an illiterate,
During young age, she had no schooling for poverty sake.
For her, language barrier was so high,
but no problem with it because she was always smile.

From their native land they tried to escape,
from the Communist rule which they hated.
It was a long time ago...about 7 decades,
but our thanks to my parents never fade.
