Mother Earth Poem by Mahathi Mydavolu

Mother Earth

There we have the golden leas
where grow nectarine grains
and nearby behold the poison ivy vines
on disturbed grounds,
creeping along the edge of your backyard,
and some entwined to trees and fences;
and there we got the cursed marshes as well,
where no seeds dare to sprout at all!

Odd Mother is Earth with many wombs;
nurturing genes, the pleasant and vulgar,
the good and evil,
the virtuous and sinful...
of great oppugnance
of Gandhari and Kunti;
Aditi and Dithi; Kousalya and Kaikasi
Is she a stoic and stone-hearted!
I don't think so!
I read her pain when she quakes
and floods herself in Tsunami tears;
and lo I feel her rejoice as well,
when wears she happily,
green bouncing sari around
during a successful spring.

And duty-bound
She's still revolving silently around
the Sun sans missing a spin!

Well, a Mother she is
the source of immense patience!

But still, I'm afraid,
as I often behold;
don't know whether in dreams
or with my eyes wide-open...
a kind of esoteric allusion it seems...
the other side of Her
the unseen Avatar of an angry Mother...
with billions of spread out hoods spitting Fire
Aho a fierce ophidian
...about to devour her own
erring hatchlings!
