Mother Melanin Poem by Ndina Kamaro Muofhe

Mother Melanin

Her tears feed the soul of winners
Whom along roads of piercing thorns,
they cross finish lines

Left alone, by her children's father
When thieves came, she had no protector
For her, what is strong is the heart
They looted all and her children had nothing to eat
They were chased out of the yard and called names
She was imprisoned in her home
And forced to cooked meals for the greedy thugs
Who eat with their dogs while her children suffers

She sobs for them
In the middle of the night
And she prays for them
So god can restore their might

Mother melanin, her beauty called thieves from afar
Some sailed from western pacific
Some popped from the deepest Antlantic
They were merchants who sell souls for survival
Shores of her feet they reach sick and starving
She embraced and nursed their sick bodies
Bodies which bled all along the seas
When they gain strength, like chamelions, they changed
And send her children to purgatory

Mother Melanin, humble in pain
Pain she manipulates to joy
And that's what they fear about her the most
They tried to extinguish her sons and daughters
Yet, their fists remained clenched to fight another day
It's true, you can't keep a good man down

Oh, black rose shining upon the dark
Thy might tells you are the chosen one
Your essence got you greedy haters
Who feed poisons to your minds and mouth
Yet, you bloom with raw smiles
You, children of mother melanin
She whose humility caused you pain
Stay strong, this too, shall pass
For you are, stones that can't be moved at all
