Mother's Day Split In Two Poem by Debra DeVeney

Mother's Day Split In Two

Mother's day was our day split in two,
with half for me and half for you.
First as a mom then as a daughter,
bringing a yellow rose in a vase of saltwater.

Now celebrating Mother's day
isn't the same since you went away.
Our day we no longer split in two
with half for me and half for you.

I still get my half this is true,
gone is the half just for you.
No yellow rose in a vase of saltwater,
since you've gone I'm no longer a daughter.

The day God took you far, far away,
forever changed my Mother's day.
Mother's day, our day, split in two,
with half for me and half for you.

Now it's just my day with a little laughter
and a day with a few tears after.
Mother's day is a day I split in two,
with half for me and half for you.
