Motives Poem by EZEKIEL MAU

Motives

Why do I the things I do?
Why do I care, why do I say I love you?
Why do I laugh as though it is always a yuletide?
Why do I say I'm sorry, is it that peace may reign,
Or is it another way of mocking you?

Why do I love, why do I forgive the hurts?
What do I want, from all these acts and taunts?
Why I'm I busy, is this me being productive in time,
Or it is a window to escape responsibility?

Why do I give, even when I will bleed?
Is this not me showing off, or do I this because I can feel your need?
Why do I want to be a leader? Maybe its greed for control
Or desire to lay my life to see you grow

Why do I want houses and cars?
Will all shelter me and cut the distance at once?
Why do I dream and refuse the normal?
Could there be more to life than this, is it proper?

Why do I practice religion?
Hope I have not believed a lie?
It is said that motives are the candles of the soul
Hope mine shines bright enough to lead me home
