Mountain Splendour Poem by Denis Martindale

Mountain Splendour

Whatever creatures climb up high
With strong thoughts to explore,
There's nothing left except the sky
And chances to see more.
The landscape beckons he who dares
To leave the past behind,
To venture forth, devoid of cares,
To learn what's there to find.

Whatever creatures may descend
The ragged rocks below,
Perhaps without a single friend
At such a time to know,
It's with a sense of destiny,
A warmer place to live,
Not just a change of scenery,
But more that life could give.

One step, then two, then three, then four,
The weary task ensues,
With challenges none dares ignore
And few would gladly choose,
Yet from the mountain top comes faith,
Once splendour conquers fear,
And courage that makes creatures brave
Enough to persevere.
