Mr Marionette Poem by Aaron Marchant

Mr Marionette

A celestial alignment must have happened high above,
the time a girl I scarcely knew, became the girl I love

I might have loved her sooner, had she not been in disguise,
until I glimpsed the girl I love, concealed behind the lies

She hides herself from time to time you wouldn't know she's there,
the girl I love walks quickly past as though she doesn't care

I speak of her with mutual friends and they always insist,
the girl I love and seek to find does not really exist

And so I doubt my senses, and feel I can't be right,
perhaps the girl I love was an illusion of the light

But I know that I saw her, and now I cannot rest,
for I'm sure, the girl I love would leave a forwarding address

And so my quest continues, in spite of all I see,
for perhaps the girl I love is at this moment seeking me

But when I say hello, I see no longing in her eyes,
yet each time that I say goodbye, the girl I love replies
