Mundanity Poem by Ernesto Barca

Mundanity

The sidling sun drags dawn
From its slumber night and hugs the sky,
Around it, wraps its light.
Hushed screams in whispered chanter,
Jars mind from dream to canter,
Still sleepy, it scurries from the day,
To re-seek dreams that have ebbed away
With flashes of image and fast-fading chatter,
The dreams of night seem not to matter.

For today has come once again,
Like yesterday and tomorrow, forever away
Lady Time she ticks as fast as ever
And still we seek and choose to stay
And sit and stare into the sky
And dream and think and feed the lie
That life can be better tomorrow,
As ever,
Without reason or purpose,
Tomorrow is never.

Foul from the start this light of dawn
Brings dreams and ambitions to rise again,
Like yesterday, last week, last year and when
We rose and dreamt and rose and then
Night falls and once more we lie and wait
Our dreams tomorrow's dangling bait
Again,
Without reason or purpose to keep score
We rise and do it all once more.
