My Acceptance Poem by Edwina Reizer

My Acceptance

I have loved and I have mourned
and both I've put aside.
Now I wonder which of these two
brought most of the tears I cried?

There is no joy in either of them
no matter when they come.
They both tear at the heart of me
and make my spirits numb.

I cry no more for what is past.
I make no weeping sound.
I remember in the midst of them
I fell on my knees to the ground.

And there I spent an hour or two
on the grassy carpeted floor,
allowing the hollow feeling of loss
to finally close its door.

I have loved and I have mourned
and what is it I own?
The will to go on with living
and acceptance of being alone.
