My autumn leaf, so small and bright
Slowly aging, through the night.
On your axil, brave and tall
Knowing well that you must fall!
You are at your lovely most
To us you gave your utmost!
Calmly you are changing colours
Having tasted earthy flavours.
Now you wilt in all your glory
You have lived a beautiful story.
Soon you will fall to the earth
A job well done; heaven's worth.
My autumn leaf has fallen down
She's still red and a pretty brown.
A gentle wind has blown her away
Oh, how I wish she had stayed!
The forest floor looks so bright
Twigs and leaves, what a sight!
Changing mood, changing season
All God's doing has its reason.
