An Autumn Villanelle Poem by Jennifer Riegler

An Autumn Villanelle

I am lying in the garden
Amidst green grass and flowers.
And they say it is autumn.

The bees carry a burden
Over large green acres.
I am lying in the garden.

The hens are looking solemn.
The wild flowers add color.
And they say it is autumn.

The deck chair invites under the sun.
The golden light, the breeze stirs.

I am lying in the garden.

The woodpecker pecks away and drums.
The walnuts fall, the squirrel slurs.
And they say it is autumn.

Nature intoxicates, I am all undone.
Golden leaves twirl and fall on the firs.
I am lying in the garden

And they say it is autumn.
