My Best Friend - Poem by Candie Saldana

You came into my life when I was two
Showed me things like a friend should
Stepped into the shoes made for another
Took the burden without regret
Best of friends we started towards
And never looking back

The first days were tough that’s for sure
Both of us learning, getting used to each other
Many mistakes and heartaches later
Angry words and hurt feelings
Just like best friends we became
And never did we look back

Days came and days went
I had children of my own
Growing in your shadow
Living with your wisdom
Best of friends sharing and caring
Never once thinking to look back

Then the day came and my world fell apart
You were gone but not from my heart
And when I think I can’t go on
I do look back and these words come to me
You’re my best friend always
My Dad and me
