My Caused Addiction Poem by Randy McClave

My Caused Addiction

I smoked my first joint
Just to prove a point,
That I could try it and then I could quit
A very easy task I did admit.
I then drank my first beer
Just to listen to my friends cheer,
And I would not drink again
Because, I knew it was a sin.
I then smoked my first cigarette
But, not because of worries or regret,
But, because all my friends who smoked
And I was provoked.

Now it's decades later
Now I'm breathing with a ventilator,
I also attend classes of addiction
Created by my own affliction.
I allowed my friends then to choose
Now I have substance abuse,
If only those many years ago
I had listen to myself, and just said no.
