My Countries And Countless Problems Poem by Hebert Logerie

My Countries And Countless Problems

I am blessed and lucky to have two countries
Both have a variety of problems and inequities
My birth country is known to be poor, indeed
Impecunious. Albeit, when honest people lead
The citizens are well off, educated and opulent.

My adopted country is probably the richest place
On earth. But, the biggest headache there is: race
As I get older and wiser, I became very aware
Of the disparities, discrimination and despair
Which imbrute my akin siblings who're resilient.

From afar, many critics would be ecstatic to utter
"Leave if you cannot deal with what's in your face? "
Or "Go back to where you were born Sir or brother? "
I reply always I belong to both. That'd be a disgrace
For me to walk away from the fire or to be indifferent.

I think, hope and dream for better days. Countries are never poor
People are poor and destitute. God will one day open the main door
For all children on earth and for all greedy and naïve segregationists
Not all heads of State are leaders. Most are liars and opportunists
I'm blessed and lucky to have many friends who're kind and patient.
