My Country..... Rising To Emerge Poem by Jayatissa K. Liyanage

My Country..... Rising To Emerge

Rating: 4.3

Having faced many losing battles
invaders absconded for good, reluctantly though
Leaving a host of imperialistic remnants
For us, to choose and fight against or live with

Whenever Nation tried to rise, since then
witnessed tentacles wiggling ‘n giggling, around
Big Bros, wealthy Uncles ‘n Royal Aunties
Seem to feel that we should please them

We are inherited a culture of mutual help
Loving kindness to all, inclusive animals
Respect for human rights, was born with
Life is founded on five noble precepts

We produced world's first ever woman PM
Showed on ground, how terrorism can be beaten
Pride, being icon to human eye donation
Denote gigantism, a tiny island can achieve in

Independence was our choice and pride
Thanks to fights, great forefathers fought
We need help of all, no doubt about that
Yet, better if world stop kicking on arse

My Country..... Rising To Emerge
POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
February 04th being Sri Lanka's Independence day, I thought it would be pertinent to let PH readers too get a feeling about it. Two previous poems, My Country..... One to be proud of and My country....Playground for Invaders will throw little light, for the reader to have a deeper view on the background to the independence of my country.
