My Daddys' Pain, Not Mine. Poem by Karen Delaney

My Daddys' Pain, Not Mine.

Rating: 3.5

Don't be angry daddy.
I'll take away your pain.
Whatever it was, that I did,
I won't do it again.

I'll try a little harder
to be pretty, smart and good.
If you would only smile at me
Oh, how I wish you would.

See the flower that I picked.
I got it just for you.
And the painting on the old fridge door,
Is one of just us two.

Today I got an A in math,
And first place in my race.
And see the dress that mummy made,
I'm a princess in this place!

Please come and sit with me a while,
And ask 'how was my day? '
Cause when you scowl and yell at me,
My heart feels sad and grey.

I love you! You're my daddy.
I wish that you could see,
How every way that you behave,
becomes a part of me.

I guess it's too late daddy.
You're up amongst the stars.
But I just want to let you know,
I've fixed up all my scars.

I sat myself up on your knee,
And ticked, laughed and sang.
We played together in my mind,
And then you held my hand.

You've told me that you're sorry,
for the things you hadn't done.
And that you were very proud,
of the person I'd become.

But most of all, you love me.
Oh dad, I knew you could!
And that you'd always smile at me.
I'm pretty, smart, and good.
