My Dear Aunt Nancy June Poem by Jan E Smith

My Dear Aunt Nancy June

No family was there to hold her hand,
as she drifted off in peace.
The surgery hadn't gone as planned,
but I am just her niece.

I checked on her every single day,
as this was all I could do.
And stopping often so I to pray
and asking others to.

This woman I've known for all my years,
my Auntie Nancy June.
Lived life fully with laughter and tears
and now she's gone too soon.

No words written and no words said
can take the pain away.
These thoughts of sadness in my head
feel like they're going to stay.

How very remarkably honest is this poem and expressive is your love and care for your aunt. It was a blessing to read.
